Law Enforcement Participation

 

The mission of the Texas Peace Officers Memorial is to honor all peace officers who have died in the line of duty in the state of Texas and to give fellow officers the ability to participate in the ceremonies held in honor of the fallen. The form below will provide officers the ability to register their honor guard teams or other officers for listed tasks during the Texas Peace Officers Memorial.

Teams ... 

Color Guard Team – Color Guard Teams will march in the procession up Congress Avenue on Sunday, May 1st, 2022. Show-up time at 100 E. 4th Street will be 5:00 pm; with a step-off of 6:00 pm. Color Guard teams will be entered into a random shuffle to set their placement. Please list the number of Color Guard personnel expected to participate in the memorial procession. Parking location will be sent out to registered teams prior to the event. There will be a bus/shuttle service to the staging location.

Lead Mixed Color Team – Six Color Guard Officers from separate agencies will be selected to compose the Mixed Color Team which will lead the memorial procession on Sunday, May 1st, 2022. Please ensure those who sign up for this duty are proficient in their marching abilities and are able to adapt to marching with a mixed team.

Mixed Rifle Team – Seven Honor Guard Officers from separate agencies will be selected to compose the Mixed Rifle Team. They will render the rifle salute during the combined ceremony on Sunday, May 1st, 2022. Those who wish to participate will need to in Austin by 3:00 pm on Sunday, May 1st, 2022 to meet with the team leader at the Texas Capitol to practice the rifle volley. Please ensure those who sign up for this duty are proficient in using shotguns with rifle movements and are able to adapt to working with a mixed team.

Buglers – Two buglers will play Taps during the combined ceremony on Sunday, May 1st, 2022 at House Park Stadium. It is imperative that the personnel who sign up for this duty have experience at playing Echo Taps and exhibit great talent in playing in front of large audiences. Those who wish to participate will be asked to demonstrate their skills prior to being selected.

Stand-In Officers – (not to be confused with Escort Officer Duties) – Stand-in officers are chosen by the family and agency of the fallen officers being honored. They will represent the fallen officer and will march to the wreath rendering a salute when their fallen officer’s name is called. They will assemble prior to the ceremony and be given detailed instructions concerning their duties and placement. Stand-in officers will be registered by agency and family through C.O.P.S. Escort Officers – Uniformed officers will escort the families of the fallen officers from the transport buses to the seating area on Sunday evening before the combined ceremony. Show up will be Sunday, May 1st, 2022 at 4:00 pm 13th Street/ Brazos Street near the Texas Peace Officers’ Memorial. Those participating in this assignment must be in their agency’s Honor Guard or Class A uniform.

Combined Pipe and Drum Band – Mounted Patrol officers will participate in the procession up Congress Avenue to the Capitol on Sunday, May 1st, 2022. Mounted Patrol – Mounted Patrol officers will participate in the procession down 12th Street to House Park Stadium on Sunday, May 2nd, 2021. Motorcycle Officers – Motorcycle officers will participate in the procession up Congress Avenue to the Capitol on Sunday, May 1st, 2022. The arrival time at 100  E. 4th Street will be 5:00 pm.
